Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is looking for a Senior MicroStation Designer to join our Rail/Track Engineering team! In this role, you will work closely with engineers, and independently, to perform high level design work in addition to drafting and project related tasks on assigned projects. Transform designs into CADD produced drawings using appropriate software.

Offering a full range of rail planning, design and engineering services to Class 1, short line, transit agencies, departments of transportation and other rail clients, our expertise ranges from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design and construction inspection. This includes service for rail freight, intercity passenger rail, commuter rail and industrial installations. Our rail and transit experts bring broad industry expertise to every project and have extensive experience in the Class 1 and short line freight railroad environment and provide engineering and design for commuter rail and light rail.


Responsibilities

  • Set up and detail plans by analyzing sketches, notes, and other input material to determine the best approach for the completion of drawings.
  • Work from sketches to produce computer-generated graphs, charts, overlays, and isometric drawings including digital terrain models and surfaces.
  • Calculate quantity takeoffs and prepare cost estimates.
  • Perform high level design computations, earthwork calculations and prepare complete construction plans.
  • Prepare concept layout plans.
  • Perform advanced designs in MicroStation / InRoads.
  • Conform to the company's standard CADD procedures for layering, etc., and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout.
  • Work with numerous project teams to help in project completion.
  • Coordinate details and dimensions between drawing sheets.
  • Prepare project exhibits.
  • Address assignments of increased difficulty as proficiency is increased.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or certification from a technical school required.
  • Associate degree in related field.
  • 8-10+ years in related field.
  • Proficient in MicroStation and InRoads. OpenRoads or OpenRail a plus.
  • ProjectWise experience is a plus.
  • Oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Planning skills.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions.
  • Detail oriented.
