Job Overview:

The Financial Counselor ensures that coverage is financially cleared for all emergency inpatient and observation services by the review of insurance eligibility and benefits. The counselor is also responsible for creating estimates and upfront cash collection as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required within one (1) year of hire.
  • Candidates who do not possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent will be provided the opportunity to enroll in a GED/HSEA program at time of hire as a condition of employment. A hired candidate will be provided one (1) year from date of hire to successfully complete a GED program and obtain their HSEA.
  • 4+ years Similar hospital billing or accounting experience
  • Knowledge of Charity Care. Uncompensated Care, and Medicaid guidelines and regulations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification preferred
  • Candidate must be detail-oriented
  • Computer experience required
  • A minimum of three years insurance authorization/pre-certification experience required.
  • Knowledge of insurance, insurance verification and TOS collections
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Bilingual preferred

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in hospital admissions preferred
  • Bilingual preferred

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 9:00 5:00 each day
  • Monday-Friday
  • Full-time
  • Rotating Weekends and holidays required

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies the appropriate payment source, which may include patient payment, enrollment in government programs including Medicaid and Charity Care or other payment sources.
  • Daily tasks include inpatient and observation patient accounts review, authorization and benefit determination, creating estimates and collecting point of service cash when appropriate. If applicable, providing timely and appropriate referrals for various state medical assistance programs.
