Job Description

Summary:
Reports to the Plant Operations Coordinator. Assists in daily operations by planning evaluating coordinating and assigning tasks to the Electricians. Assists in the hiring and performance evaluation process and recommends discipline as required.

Responsibilities:
Assists in the interview process recommending selection of Electricians. Schedules assigns trains and evaluates performance of Electricians. Recommends disciplinary action up to and including termination. Oversees and inspects all electrical work performed by Hospital and contractor employees. Provides technical supervision of assigned staff.



Communicates and ensures compliance by subordinates with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.



Receives work orders for installation modification maintenance and repair of electrical equipment wiring power lighting telephone computer fire alarms and some appliances. Sets priorities and assigns work to individual Electricians giving instructions to ensure that the work conforms to electrical codes.



Tests all existing and incoming electrical equipment for safety ground capabilities etc. including researching circuits and checking relevant codes. Lays out work for selected electrical jobs.



Designs selected circuits necessary to wire new equipment or rewire existing equipment.



Ensures that appropriate conduits and wiring required for installation of telephones computer lines intercoms fire alarm systems and Security systems are made.



Researches technical books and schematics and confers with appropriate personnel to solve electrical problems and to perform more complex assignments.



Ensures that work is progressive satisfactory; provides technical assistance when necessary. Ensures that all work complies with all code requirements. Inspects completed work.



Contacts electrical suppliers and orders parts and materials to perform assignments.



Schedules routine safety tests on electrical systems. Ensures necessary tests are conducted and related records are maintained in accordance with Joint Commission requirements.



Maintains records such as time worked on projects employee attendance and service and repair records.



Supervises testing of Emergency Electrical Generators and distribution systems.



Performs investigations to determine and locate defects in electrical systems repair electrical wiring lighting fixtures wiring devices and central equipment control.



Repairs electrically operated equipment as required by work order emergency calls or direct assignment.



Studies blueprints and diagrams to ascertain layout location and specification of items to be installed; prepares quantity and cost of materials required. Overcomes any problems encountered.



Maintains inventory of frequently used materials.



Maintains records of repairs to equipment and brings to the attention of the supervisor frequently repaired equipment and recommended possible replacement.



Maintains high and low voltage electrical systems including transfer switches power panels fire alarm systems smoke detection systems and other alarm systems as required.



Installs electrical systems controls and distribution equipment including measuring cutting bending and threading for electrical conduit assemblies.



Repairs and/or replaces motors transformers switches and outlets as required.



Tests electrical distribution amperage load conditions and recommends corrections where overload conditions exist.



Coordinates the shutdown of electrical systems for repair.



Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.



Performs all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Miriam Hospital Facilities Management Department policy and the Fleet Risk Control Policy and Procedures.



Regularly performs all duties of Electrician. Performs other duties as required.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Master Electrician license required.

Completion of four years of high school or vocational training plus three years of electrician*s apprenticeship.

Knowledge of electrical building codes.

Supervisory skills to effectively direct the work of others.

Analytical ability to plan schedule and coordinate work projects and to troubleshoot electrical problems research manuals and provide solutions.

Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics.

Knowledge of electrical devices and equipment.

Knowledge of code requirements underwriter*s lab requirements OSHA regulations and Joint Commission standards.

Must have a good driving record meet and maintain the appropriate and valid driver licenses in order to operate motor vehicles as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and in accordance with the Lifespan Fleet Risk Control Policy.


EXPERIENCE:

10 years* experience as an Electrician in a hospital or similar setting

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Schedules assigns and oversees work of 5 Electricians.

Working environment exposes incumbent to heat chemicals and a variety of light and heavy equipment.

Any potential hazard is minimized by adherence to safety procedures and use of protective clothing and equipment.

Considerable amount of walking climbing standing stooping bending squatting and lifting heavy objects.
