Job Summary

Sam Schwartz is seeking a senior-level Transportation Planner or Associate to lead projects and support business development as part of a dynamic team that provides a range of planning services for clients, including Vision Zero and safety studies, corridor studies, bicycle and pedestrian plans, complete streets concept development, and multi-modal transportation plans. The planner will be part of an interdisciplinary team of consultants (planning, urban design, transportation engineering) and lead projects of a range of sizes for both public and private sector clients, contributing to technical analysis; multi-modal design; public and stakeholder engagement; and development of planning documents, reports, presentations, and graphics.

Ideal candidates will be solutions-focused, with the ability to contribute significantly to conceptual design, problem solving, and report writing, client-facing and articulate, with the ability to communicate persuasively and develop positive team dynamics; and have demonstrated experience managing complex projects, including the ability to understand and anticipate the larger client and business needs while successfully managing day-to-day project demands. Experience in analysis and strategy development in the topics of mobility equity and mobility justice are a plus.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

The selected individual will perform various tasks, such as:

  • Leading interdisciplinary project teams
  • Managing project budgets and schedules
  • Developing and implementing QA/QC processes
  • Managing client relationships
  • Writing and reviewing technical reports
  • Performing traffic and transportation analyses
  • Preparing regional, citywide, neighborhood, and corridor transportation plans
  • Developing parking management plans
  • Identifying new business opportunities and supporting business development
  • Leading and contributing to proposal development and interview presentations
  • Representing the company at industry events

Skills and Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively
  • Experience managing transportation projects, including management of staff, budgets, and clients
  • Understanding of, and interest in, marketing, networking, and business development
  • Knowledge of industry standards (e.g. AASHTO, MUTCD, HCM, NACTO, and other guidelines)
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Ten years of experience in the transportation planning field
  • Master's degree in urban planning, transportation engineering, or related field
  • AICP certification strongly preferred
