Job Summary

The Executive Director for Nursing/Patient Care Services is responsible for the review, analysis, and evaluation of management systems and programs for Nursing and Patient Care Services enterprise-wide. The incumbent coordinates with Nursing/Patient Care Services and Finance leadership to ensure effective and optimum utilization of personnel, fiscal, and material resources. The role requires expertise in financial management, systems design, and evaluation. This role manages project initiatives relative to aligning resources to increase operational efficiency via process improvement and managing large-scale operational projects.
The Executive Director is responsible for leading the development of business plans, developing financial and administrative systems to support the plan and monitoring of progress in accomplishing the short and long-term business and strategic goals. A proactive data-driven approach is required. 30% of UCSF Health is nursing/clinical labor. Given the urgency of managing this large workforce, an enterprise finance resource to link Nsg/PCS with Finance is critical. This role reports directly to the CNE with dotted lines to the CFO's and works collaboratively to support the CNOs and Nsg/PCS leaders.
The Executive Director must establish a strong working relationship with customers, clearly understanding their goals and requirements to facilitate the optimum deployment solutions while keeping priorities and resource constraints in mind. In UCSF's highly matrixed organization this role needs to be able to influence people that do not directly report to her/him and must possess strong interpersonal skills.
The position will lead projects that are complex in nature, requiring a high level of initiative and attention to detail in execution and implementation; problem-solving frequently requires analysis of unique issues and problems without precedent and/or structure. This individual must be an independent problem solver and be able to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment.

This role provides strategic guidance, advising and decision-making in partnership with the CNE, UCSF Health and the CNE's direct report team. This role manages project initiatives relative to aligning resources to increase operational efficiency via process improvement and managing large-scale operational projects.

This position is placed in the Office of the CNE, UCSF Health, and has a system-wide impact relating to the organizational goals of operating more efficiently and improving patient care.

This role works across the organization and partners with CNE Direct reports, as well as other senior leaders across the health system.
