POSITION OVERVIEW AND PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):

We are looking for someone to support Glenn Research Center-NASA's Central Chemical Storage Facility Shipping and Receiving department as a Logistics VIII. The qualified candidate should have experience with operating hazardous materials, shipping and receiving as well as other duties relative to the position.

  • Support the Central Chemical Storage Facility operations for hazardous material receipt, handing, storage and ground shipping functions within the Logistics Supply Management Area in accordance with the Statement of Work for WBS 1.2.
  • Ensure shipping activities are conducted according Title 49 CFR for ground hazmat transportation and DOT regulations.
  • Use proper equipment to safely load and unload government property.
  • Comply with all ATS Policies and Procedures, including all Logistics Work Instructions and Job Hazard Analysis
  • Comply with the requirements of the TIALS 2 Safety Plan.
  • Comply with the requirements of the TIALS 2 Quality Plan.
  • Comply with the requirements of the TIALS 2 Organizational Conflict of Interest (OCI) Avoidance Plan.
  • Comply with the requirements of the NASA GRC Safety Manual.
  • Comply with the requirements of the NASA GRC Environmental Management System.
  • Participate in the Logistics Safety Review Board, as required.
  • Support management in creating a safe work environment by aggressively participating in safety meetings and safety walk through inspections.
  • Communicate all work activities and issues to the Supply Management Supervisor.
  • Obtain appropriate certifications forklift.
  • Obtain lift physical examination.
  • Inspect all incoming hazardous material packages for damage.
  • Reject all defective, damaged, or suspicious packages.
  • Create report of discrepancy for non-conforming items.
  • Segregate non-conforming items to avoid accidental use.
  • Segregate conforming chemicals by hazard group to ensure storage compatibility.
  • Receive all incoming hazardous materials packages electronically in SAP and GSMS.
  • Barcodes all chemical containers for GRC Environmental Office Chemical Monitoring Program.
  • Gather and maintain hard copies of all packing lists and delivery paperwork for future audit trail purposes.
  • Create new records and edit existing records by gathering and entering electronic data into RETCON system on each vendor owned and government owned compressed gas cylinder and any vendor owned compressed gas cylinder still at GRC ordered before SGMS was implemented.
  • Create new records and edit existing records by gathering and entering data into SGMS on each vendor owned compressed gas cylinder.
  • Tag all compressed gas cylinders appropriately to be tracked in RETCON or SGMS.
  • Prepare Hazardous Materials manifests for shipment of compressed gas cylinders.
  • Document all outgoing shipments.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates deliveries to end users with barrel truck drivers and Fuel Distribution personnel.
  • Communicate urgent deliveries such as Dry Ice Packages with barrel truck drives and Fuel Distribution personnel.
  • Communicate any unusual delivery instructions such as " light sensitive" or "moisture sensitive".
  • Electronically generates Material Tracking System (MTS) delivery tickets for final delivery of items .
  • Maintain compressed gas cylinders in an organized, segregated, upright manner.
  • Maintain drum, and other container storage in organized warehouse manner.
  • Dispense oils, leak tech solution and other fluids into smaller containers.
  • Label all containers of dispensed fluids.
  • Ensure that Material Safety Data Sheets are forwarded to the Chemical Management Office upon receipt.
  • Coordinates recertification of government owned compressed gas cylinders with supply and vendor personnel.
  • Ensure certification of analysis accompanies all gas cylinders.
  • Assist with the government and vendor owned tri-annual inventory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Certified to ship hazardous material by ground. Must possess a current 49CFR training certification.
