The City of Renton has an exciting seasonal Transportation Laborer opportunity in our Transportation Operations division performing a variety of maintenance duties. This position is anticipated to last for approximately three months and is 40 hours per week. Applicants should be flexible with scheduling as the position can include evenings and weekends.

SUPERVISION:

Reports To: Intelligent Transportation Systems and Maintenance Manager
Supervises: None

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Install traffic control devices, such as signs, buttons, and delineator posts.
  • Paint or install pavement markings.
  • Perform traffic flagging duties on job sites.
  • Operate pick-up trucks, bucket trucks, and one ton trucks; use approved equipment; perform minor equipment maintenance.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of maintenance equipment and tools; clean and perform routine maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair of the street lighting systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair to street lighting and traffic signal systems.
  • Install, relamp and clean traffic signal heads and signs; change bulbs and clean lenses.
  • Stray voltage checks.
  • Inventory of City assets.
  • Clean c-curbing and plastic curbing in city right away.
  • May assist technicians in more complex work as needed.
  • Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance; work flexible evening and/or weekend hours as required; ability to travel as required.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.
  • If under 18 years old an intermediate driver's license and driving for six months is required.
  • Successfully pass a background check.
  • Successfully pass a driving record check

  • Demonstrate knowledge of safety guidelines and practices.
  • Ability to handle conflict and solve problems using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to navigate emergency situations.
  • Work with diverse groups of people in a tactful, effective, and respectful manner.
  • Follow instructions, both written and verbal.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Communicate with City employees and residents.
  • Lift or move items weighing up to 80 pounds on occasion.
  • Perform work from ladders and bucket trucks at considerable heights.
  • Bending, climbing, stretching, walking and standing for extended periods of time.
  • Work may be performed within the right of way, and in high traffic conditions.
  • Driving a City vehicle is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Noise level is moderately loud.
