Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Situation in organization

Reports To: Maintenance Operations Manager. This position has no direct reports.

Job dimensions

Responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and preventive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site's business goals and objectives.

Activities
  • Perform highly diversified duties. Repair and maintain centrifugal, gear and air/hydraulic diaphragm pumps. Repair or replace mechanical seals on pumps and agitator gearboxes. Maintain parts inventory that requires research, ordering and stocking. Must have computer skills that include maintenance work requests and purchase requisitioning.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools, pipe threader, welder, electric meters and have experience in operating forklifts, man lifts and JLG's.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and off hours. Perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during planned outages. Will be part of an on call rotation. Must be able to communicate with outside vendors or contractors to perform small capital project work.
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, lubrication, mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
  • Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities and update maintenance records and equipment history.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
  • Apply the skills of respective trade/craft/discipline in executing maintenance work
  • Leverage trade skills to apprentice and other maintenance associates.
  • Assist in the development of Maintenance Work Procedures
  • Feedback information on job package quality and Root Cause Analysis data as required
  • Assist in maintenance planning
  • Follows job plan to complete work
  • Follows standard work procedures where available
  • Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or needed as part of an empowered team.
  • Will be a team member on various site teams (ex: Health and Safety Team)
Context and environment

This is a plant-based position. Individual works a10 hour schedule 4 days a week (typical schedule hours are 6:30-17:00). This position is classified as hourly. This is a chemical plant environment which requires the use of various personal protective equipment; dependent on the job task: Hard Hat, Safety Glasses, Steel Toed Shoes, Rubber Aprons, Rubber Suits, Dust Masks, Face Shield, Full Face Supplied Air Respirators (Occasionally), and Various Types of gloves.

Qualifications / experience required

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires a high school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience; strong mechanical and industrial skills. Rotating equipment experience is preferred.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Maintenance work will occasionally require confined space entries, working at elevated heights, using respirators, working outdoors in extreme temperatures etc., Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds consistently with heavier weight necessary at times. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding or powered lifts when required at times. Must be able to work from ladders, scaffolding or powered lifts when required.
