Senior Medical Director oversees Providers and Systems of Primary Care, Urgent Care, Dermatology and Sports Medicine.

Total FTE 1.0 with administrative time at 0.5-0.75 (flexible). Remaining FTE will be clinical.

Our organization has been at the forefront of delivering exceptional healthcare and health insurance services to the vibrant communities of South Central Wisconsin for over 47 years. We are Wisconsin's first and Dane County's only member-owned, non-profit health care cooperative with a staff of 37 physicians (family medicine, internal medicine, and pediatrics) and 43 PAs/NPs with five Madison-area clinic locations. The Senior Medical Director is a practicing physician and has overall responsibility and accountability for Primary Care, Urgent Care and Dermatology and for ensuring members receive the health care required of a federally-qualified HMO and as mandated by the GHC-SCW Board of Directors. The Senior Medical Director will ensure that Practitioners feel fully engaged in both the clinical and administrative aspects of their practices. This position will oversee the Clinic Medical Directors to ensure excellent performance of the day-to-day affairs of the Primary Care, Urgent Care and Dermatology practices and will work cooperatively with the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Nursing and Clinical Operations Officer and the Clinic Managers as a member of an integrated management team to manage the daily needs and operations of the Clinics. The Senior Medical Director serves on the Clinics Management Council (CMC) and other appropriate committees, as needed. The Senior Medical Director is expected to use his/her professional judgment at all times in relation to making recommendations to patients for their personal medical care.

JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Current, unrestricted Wisconsin State Licensure as a Physician in a primary care specialty required.
  2. Completion of a residency in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine or Pediatrics, or comparable experience required. Board certification in a specialty area is required.
  3. Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Administrative Medical Business Administration, Public health, or some other relevant health/business administrative field preferred.
  4. Managed care leadership experience preferred.
  5. Minimum of four (4) years of practice experience in managed health care setting required.
  6. Ability to maintain currency in area of expertise in primary care field.
  7. Current valid Federal Controlled Substance registration Certificate.
  8. Possession of or eligibility for a valid Healthcare Provider CPR/AED certificate is required. Employee must obtain certification within four (4) months of employment.
  9. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver license with a good driving record. Ability to provide own transportation to travel between sites as required.
  10. Knowledge and skills in ambulatory healthcare administration and management, especially in relation to HMO's; systems and program planning, implementation, and evaluation, health services supervision, and operations.
  11. Medical management skills such as team building, HR management, including conflict management and medical utilization and quality assurance management required. Ability to provide leadership to medical staff and in a group decision making process required.
  12. Ability to be organized and work effectively and cooperatively with the colleagues and GHC-SCW Leadership in achieving GHC's goals and strategies.
  13. Knowledge of utilization management concepts and tools, and statistics preferred. Ability to read and interpret various medical reports and/or results required.
  14. Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and administration as applied to the management of personnel. Good supervisory skills required with ability to provide leadership to staff required. Ability to provide leadership to staff in a group decision making process required.
  15. Ability to use initiative and judgment in administrative areas.
  16. Effective analytical ability in order to develop and analyze options, recommend solutions to and solve complex issues.
  17. Knowledge of and ability to use various computer programs such as Microsoft Office and programs/systems utilized in healthcare management including electronic medical record systems such as EPIC.
  18. Excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication and interpersonal skills required in order to project a professional image to interact courteously and effectively with patients, the public, staff and others required.
  19. Ability to effect collaborative alliances, and promote and foster teamwork among management teams; ability to mentor, provide leadership and teamwork among practitioner staff.
  20. Ability to maintain strict patient, proprietary and employee confidentiality required. Knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
  21. Ability to prioritize and organize a diverse workload required.
  22. Ability to stand/walk for up to eight hours per/day required. Ability to see at near, mid and far range required.
  23. Ability to speak and hear in person and on the telephone required. Ability to perform fingering and handling with both hands required.
  24. Ability to bend, stoop, twist, assist patient in turning; assist patient in arising from exam table required.
  25. Ability to push wheelchair patients required. Ability to assist patient in rising from and returning to wheelchair required.
  26. Excellent customer skills required. Ability to be culturally sensitive and to work with a diverse patient population.
