As a part of the Manufacturing Design Subject Matter Expert (SME) group, this role involves researching, developing, and scaling for mass production, next generation surface treatments and coatings for an array of materials that are key enablers for the future product roadmap. The ideal candidate demonstrates creativity, initiative, and strong collaboration in a large cross-functional environment to drive projects independently. They also need to be comfortable in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and a committed problem solver.

Key Qualifications

  • Solid working knowledge of equipment, fixturing, process control and automation.
  • Demonstrated experience in defining, implementing & qualifying new processes in an international supply chain.
  • Ability to independently manage a program to a fast-paced schedule from development into mass production in a matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated experience or working knowledge in advanced analytical techniques (such as XRF, SEM, EDS, FTIR, TEM, ICP, GCMS & XPS) to characterize contaminants, coatings or solve failure modes
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis, design of experiments and presenting data.
  • Self-starter with an exceptional drive to delivering high quality results in a fast-paced environment.


Description

Process & Equipment ownership for technologies such as PVD/CVD/Lithography/Dry Etch *Define and develop MP feasible process for an array of substrates and geometries. *We conduct DOEs to optimize process variables to meet product specifications. *Collaborate with best-in-class equipment and consumables vendors to develop specifications and implement custom MP feasible solutions to achieve aggressive targets for yield and cost. Problem Solving *We collaborate with Apple Product design and Manufacturing Design to assess process risks to product cosmetics and reliability. *Conduct extensive failure analysis and surface characterization to root-cause technical issues and/or define surface level specifications. *Design and implement DOEs to mitigate engineering build issues. Work with key cross-functional partners to qualify process changes. Supplier Management *We collaborate with overseas counterpart to bring up equipment/process at supplier sites *Work with contract manufacturers to deliver detailed process control plans and ensure they are followed through pilot to mass production stages. *We collect, analyze, and present data to key decision makers to help drive design and commercial decisions.

Education & Experience

BS/MS/PhD in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.

Additional Requirements

    This role will require up to 30% international travel.


Pay & Benefits

    At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $119,900.00 and $181,000.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
