Job Description

We are seeking an Underwriting Assistant to join our Financial Lines team based in either our either Berkeley Heights, NJ or Chicago, IL offices but open to other locations based on candidate qualifications. The Underwriting Assistants review and analyze incoming transactions and related information for completeness, accuracy and quality. They are responsible for multi-line new business submissions, renewal submissions, and endorsements processing including rating, policy construction, and assembly in a timely and accurate manner.


  • Regularly reviews and adheres to department processing guidelines and procedures to ensure accuracy including recommended changes/enhancements
  • Manage underwriting relationships with timely responses relative to service inquiries.
  • Maintain all correspondence activity with internal and external customers including daily diaries on pending transactions
  • Ensure compliance with state rules and regulations relative to cancellations and reinstatements
  • Gathering and analyzing underwriting information including experience reports, final audits, loss control reports, financial reports, and loss runs
  • Ability to manage internal report updates based on manager discretion
  • Participates in peer review and quality control for the team(s) as needed
  • Special projects, including the participation in company projects, as needed

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience required
  • 3 or more years of UA Experience, Financial Lines - specific knowledge a plus
  • Proficient knowledge of underwriting principles, product-specific coverage, policy forms, pricing tools, regulatory compliance, and insurance systems
  • Proficient in MS Office, with exceptional skills in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong desk management and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing demands and requests to complete work within required time constraints with a high volume of work.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and mathematical aptitude.
  • The ability to work in a team environment and handle multiple deadlines with ease.
  • Self-starter that is energized by independent learning and research
