Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Gift Planning plays a pivotal role in the university's advancement efforts by creating and overseeing the strategic development, marketing, and stewardship of planned giving program to support the mission of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

This position requires a deep understanding of charitable gift planning vehicles, excellent marketing skills to promote planned giving opportunities, and strong administrative abilities to ensure compliance and efficient management of gift planning initiatives.

It is important that the Director maintains a thorough understanding of relevant tax, probate, trust and financial/estate planning information and assists with gifts of real property and assists with estate administration services as well.

The Director of Gift Planning will maintain and effectively market a legacy giving society, analyze current and future opportunities, manage a portfolio of planned giving donors and high potential prospects and, create detailed stewardship plans and outreach strategies to meet ambitious goals for long-term revenue growth.

The Director of Gift Planning serves as the senior development professional in lifetime testamentary gifts, and is responsible for providing leadership for the implementation and administration of the campus-wide gift planning program, in accordance with industry best practices.

The Director works with a team of professional and administrative staff, chief development officers, and major gifts officers in all university colleges, programs, and university-affiliated foundations in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of planned giving donors.

This position also manages key internal and external relationships to promote the marketing, acceptance, risk management, and administration of deferred and complex outright gifts.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree in estate planning, nonprofit management, fundraising, financial planning, business administration, law, or related field preferred.

Five or more years work experience in university or non-profit philanthropy, wealth management, legal or financial disciplines involving estate planning with demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting planned gifts.

Strong knowledge of charitable gift planning vehicles, tax laws, and regulations related to philanthropy.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and inspire donors.

Proficiency in marketing and communications, including digital marketing channels and content development.

Experience in database management and donor stewardship.

Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of staff, volunteers, donors, and professional advisors.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Advanced degree or professional certification preferred.

Experience working in charitable gift planning in a complex non-profit organization.

Experience supervising personnel. Experience securing significant gifts.

Experience in law, accounting, financial planning, or trust/estate administration.

Knowledge of best practices in charitable gift planning, as evidenced by presentations, publications, or experience in a high-performing gift planning office.
Required License or Certification
