Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing clinical therapy services in a professional, timely, and effective manner to ensure compliance with hospital, regulatory, government, and program goals and requirements.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Completes comprehensive assessments and identifies treatment issues needs and provides resources and care goals.
  • Provides evidence-based mental health care interventions based on assessment, e.g., CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing, etc., on an individual basis or in a group setting. Educates patients' families and other medical personnel on the patients' treatment plan and evaluates patients' progress.
  • Prepares and executes treatment plans according to the needs of each patient. Conducts psychological assessments, makes recommendations, and maintains records. Facilitates adult or youth groups and individual counseling sessions.
  • Manages psychological services to patients, including the study, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
  • Works with individuals, families, and groups in treating mental, behavioral, and emotional problems and disorders.
  • Through the discussion of emotions and experiences, offers guidance to individuals, couples, families, and groups who are dealing with issues that affect their mental health and well-being. Helps patients define goals, plan actions, and gain insights. Develops therapeutic processes.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement by ensuring completion of patient satisfaction surveys, as needed. Under the direction of supervisor or manager or attending physician, assists in evaluation of needs and implementation of processes for effective program improvement and development.
  • Utilizes program supplies and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
  • Acts as a resource for patients, families, and staff regarding various treatment matters.
  • Takes an active role in the interdisciplinary treatment process by promoting teamwork with physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, counselors, and personnel of other departments.
  • Maintains contact with outpatient providers, referral sources, and patient's families as appropriate.
  • Documents case management and therapeutic services according to department standards.
  • Assures key regulatory requirements are met as defined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, Virginia Department of Human Rights, The Joint Commission, and other related regulatory and licensing bodies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work or graduate degree from a program that prepares individuals to practice counseling, as defined in *54.1-3500 of the Code of Virginia required.
  • Valid LCSW or LPC licensure in Virginia required at hire.
    • In lieu of licensure at hire, incumbent may be eligible if they meet one of the following criteria:
      • Active Resident in Counseling with less than 6 months to receive designation as Licensed Professional Counselor
      • Active engagement as Supervisee in Social Worker with less than 6 months to receive designation as Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Previous inpatient/outpatient mental health/substance abuse experience required.
  • CPR (AHA Healthcare Provider) required.
  • CPI certification required within 90 days of hire.
