Company Overview
We create "Home" for older adults wherever they choose to live. Ecumen is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Our name comes from the word Ecumenical, which in turn is derived from the Greek word for home: "oikos." Ecumen's roots were planted by the Lutheran Church in 1862. The Church is an important part of our heritage and who we are today. In 1923, we incorporated under the name of the Board of Christian Service. Becoming one of Minnesota's largest service providers, we changed our name in 1962 to the Board of Social Ministry. We became Ecumen in 2004 and are today one of America's largest non-profit senior housing companies. Ecumen provides senior independent living, assisted living communities, care centers, home health care and a wide variety of community-based services in more than 100 communities. Ecumen also provides senior housing development and management services and long-term care consulting and training services for other organizations. One of the great joys in life is when you find purpose in your work and you are working with others who share that purpose. As members of the Ecumen team, we are on the forefront of an unprecedented demographic shift as our baby boom generation ages. We see that historic change as an energizing opportunity to make this world a better place to live. At Ecumen we believe that great people working together accomplish great things. We are proud that the Twin Cities Business Journal selected Ecumen as one of the region’s “Great Places to Work.” We are even prouder of the work our employees are doing to create “Home” for older adults wherever they choose to live. Thank you for your interest in Ecumen.
