Category | Research Associate, Research Assistant and Technician/Technologist |
The Baker Lab at The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Research Intern interested in joining a team of scientists studying how genetic variation impacts phenotypic variation through changes in the epigenome. Most genetic variants that influence complex traits (i.e. development or disease susceptibility) are located in regulatory regions. These regulatory regions are marked by a host of modifications, known as the epigenome, that change how the cell interprets the DNA code. Projects in the Baker Lab employ methods in functional genomics to understand epigenomic regulation during meiosis and germ cell development, and cell state transitions during early embryonic development using mouse embryonic stem cells as a model.
The Baker lab will train Interns to plan, execute and analyze a research project; however, motivation and curiosity are the two most critical skills that we expect you to bring to science.
This position is a full-time temporary position lasting a minimum of 12 months up to 36 months and is designed specifically for individuals with a four-year Life Science, Biology, Computational/Statistical/Mathematical Biology, or applicable degree, looking to advance their scientific/research training prior to pursuing further educational endeavors.
The Jackson Laboratory (JAX, ) is a nonprofit biomedical research institute with over 2,000 employees whose mission is to discover precise genomic solutions for human disease and empower the global biomedical community in the shared quest to improve human health. A National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center, JAX has a mammalian genetics headquarters in Bar Harbor, Maine, a facility in Sacramento, California, and a genomic medicine facility, The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine (JAX-GM), in Farmington, Connecticut.
The Jackson Laboratory's 43-acre scenic Bar Harbor campus is nestled between the Gulf of Maine and the mountains of Acadia National Park. Some of the best hiking and biking in the world (over 50 square miles of mountains, lakes, views, and dramatic coastline) is accessible from our campus.
